Trap Rap Beats

Onyx-Epitome of underrated

After recently listening to 1998s shut em down, which is a no skip album (that also introduced the world to 50 cent), I’m just puzzled why onyx aren’t sitting at nas-level hip hop legend status. Their first 3-5 albums are just pure solid NY grime hip hop. They created a sound. They came out in 93 before illmatic, ready to die etc. They were unapologetically gangsta. Fredo starr was doing a solid job acting in films (strapped) and to a lesser extent sticky (clockers) which were overlooked. Some of the illest beats and rhymes ever released. No weak aspects. Consistent. Only thing I can think of was I personally think sticky fingaz doing that celeb boxing shit was detrimental to their image. They deserve higher praise
