The Harlem rapper released his debut studio album on March 7th, 2000, via Arista and Bad Boy Records.
Rob appeared on a number of remixes on the Bad Boy label from 1996 onwards and thus subsequently garnered hype for his debut. Life Story debuted and peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and sold close to 178,000 copies in its first week released. The album has been certified platinum by the RIAA for selling over 1,000,000 copies in America.
Black Rob was sentenced to over seven years in prison in 2006 after failing to appear in court for his sentencing (which was set to be two-to-six years initially) on a charge of grand larceny from 2004, in which he pleaded guilty to criminal possession of more than US$6,000 worth of jewelry stolen in a hotel. He was released from prison in May 2010.
In 2010, he parted from Bad Boy and signed to independent label Duck Down Records, where he Game Tested, Streets Approved (2011).
On April 17, 2021, Ross died of cardiac arrest at age 52, after struggling with homelessness and health issues for the later part of his life.
