Trap Rap Beats

[DISCUSSION] dead prez - Let's Get Free (25 Years Later)

On February 8th 2000 hip-hop duo dead prez released their first studio album "Let's Get Free". Let's Get Free is a political hip-hop album during a time political hip-hop wasn't in its peak of popularity and was considered by some critics to be a return of political hip-hop.

Commercially "Let's Get Free" peaked at #73 on Billboard 200 and two its singles "Hip-Hop" and "It's Bigger Than Hip-Hop" charted on US Rap peaking at #49 and #43 respectively. In the United States of America alone the album has sold over 300 000 copies.

The only credited features on the album are Maintain on the track "The Pistol" and Tahir And Peoples Army on "It's Bigger Than Hip-Hop". However the most of the songs feature additional vocals from speeches of various political activists such as Omali Yeshitela and Huey Newton but also musical artists like Keanna Henson and Prodigy and even 1973 movie "The Spook Who Sat By The Door".

The album was entirely produced by dead prez (M-1 and stic.man), Headrush, Lord Jamar and Kanye West. dead prez are credited as producers on every track of the album, Headrush is credited in seven of the songs, Lord Jamar in five of the songs and Kanye West in one song.

The album's production was considered dull by some critics but personally I think the production on this LP is the most hip-hop out of any album I've heard.
