2010 - Kanye, obviously. 2011 - Kendrick, debuted this year and began building a road to success. 2012 - Kendrick again. Obvious reasons. 2013 - Childish Gambino, his project from that year is unforgettable. 2014 - Freddie Gibbs. Piñata is a staple in not just his discog, but in hip hop in general. 2015 - KENDRICK ONCE AGAIN! What can I say, he's literally the greatest. 2016 - Danny Brown. Atrocity Exhibition is one of THE greatest albums ever created in general. He's showcasing us his struggles using trippy instrumentals and insane beats. 2017 - Vince Staples. Okay, DAMN was good, but c'mon. Big Fish Theory is basically his Good Kid mAAd City, with some of the catchiest production of that year. 2018 - Mac Miller. He did NOT die to lose to Cardi B 😭😭. Rest in peace man. Swimming was basically his goodbye to the world. It feels eerie, as if he knew he would never wake up in a couple weeks. 2019 - Freddie Gibbs. Just like Piñata, Bandana is a staple for hip hop. 2020 - Freddie Gibbs, once again. He's had one of the craziest runs in hip hop ever. 2021 - Little Simz. Sometimes I Might Be An Introvert feels like a breathe of fresh air from what female rappers usually would talk about. The album feels like you're slowly but surely perfecting yourself. It has kind of a stoner mindset, to just never let the world tell you how to do you. Do you, YOUR way. 2022 - JID. The Forever Story is perfect, in every single way. No explanation is needed, just listen to it. 2023 - Lil Yachty. Bro was on a CRAZY run. There was Let's Start Here, an absolute MASTERPIECE of a rock+RnB record. Then he released the Slide EP, and made an insane collab with JID. 2024 - I'm still deciding between Kendrick or Doechii. Kendrick had the beef + GNX, but Doechii released one of the greatest mixtapes ever and put out some crazy music videos + the Tiny Desk concert.
