[DISCUSSION] Young MC - Stone Cold Rhymin' (35 Years Later)

The London-born, New York-raised rapper released his debut album on September 5th, 1989, via Delicious Vinyl.

After writing the songs "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina" for Tone Lōc in 1988/89, Young gained fame with the release of his single "Bust a Move", which reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance.

The album reached No. 9 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, with 6 of 13 songs being released as singles.

Tracklist:

  1. I Come Off
  2. Principal's Office
  3. Bust a move
  4. Non Stop
  5. Fastest Rhyme
  6. My Name Is Young
  7. Know how
  8. Roll With The Punches
  9. I Let 'em Know
  10. Pick Up The Pace
  11. Got More Rhymes
  12. Stone Cold Buggin'
  13. Just Say No

Discussion:

  1. Is Young MC forgotten these days compared to his fame he had in 1989? Why is that?

  2. Was the influx of late-80s rappers born in London with Young MC, Slick Rick, Zev Love X (MF DOOM) and Monie Love a pure coincidence?
