Trap Rap Beats

[DISCUSSION] The Fat Boys - Fat Boys (40 Years Later)

The Brooklyn rap group consisting of the beatboxer "Buff a.k.a. The Human Beatbox" and rappers "Prince Markie Dee" and "Kool Rock-Ski" released their debut studio album on May 29th, 1984, via Sutra records.

Entirely produced by Kurtis Blow, the group changed their name from "The Disco Three" to the Fat Boys for this album. It peaked at number 48 on the US Billboard 200 and number 6 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.

Tracklist:

  1. Jail House Rap
  2. Stick 'Em
  3. Can You Feel It?
  4. Fat Boys
  5. The Place to Be
  6. Human Beat Box
  7. Don't You Dog Me
  8. Reality
  9. All You Can Eat

Discussion:

  1. Some articles describe the Fat Boys' image as a "novelty group". Do you think that is the case?

  2. This album is arguably the first hip-hop album to feature the art of beat-boxing. Do you think the technique was underused in recorded hip hop?
