[DISCUSSION] Why do newer age artists seem to lack longevity lately?

TL;DR: Are more recent artists “falling off” because they are actually making bad music or is it a result of current social media and streaming culture?

Ever since around like 2016 when some of these young artists were up and popping, I feel like I’ve noticed that over the period of just a few years these artists seem to be “falling off”. People like Roddy Ricch, Kodak Black, DaBaby, Ski Mask, and Trippie Redd seem to not be doing as well as back then, and those are just guys who are still mentioned today. Others like Desiigner, Famous Dex and Rich the Kid seem like they aren’t even mentioned anymore.

There have obviously been folks who have been able to stay relevant, like Carti, Yachty, Cardi B, Denzel, Uzi, etc, but for some reason it seems like they’re fighting an uphill battle wherever they drop (or lack to drop) compared to older folks like Rocky, Drake*, Future, Kendrick and the likes.

Why does this seem to be the case? Is it just a result of the way we consume music through streaming and social media? Were some of them just trend chasing? Is their quality objectively falling over time? Or do we just truly have way too much music at our disposal to appreciate what some of these artists create? Curious to know what you all think.

Sidenote: This is just my perspective on the situation. I might be looking in the wrong spaces and they could actually be getting a lot of love, so please tell me if thats the case.
